October Means Outreach

9/29/2015

During the month of October the members and friends of Calvary Baptist have the opportunity to go out their way to invite others to join them in worship.  First for the Revival that will take place October 17th, 18th & 19th.  This is going to be a great event as we are challenged to live more fully for Christ as we prepare for HIS return.  Bring friends and family members that need to get back in touch with God.  Invite others expecting God to change some lives.

We also have the opportunity to give back to the community by bringing our treasures to give away at the GIANT FREE YARD SALE.  You will have people ask you, why is everything free?  It is because we want Sedalia to know that our church is interested in investing in the people of this community.  Workers will be needed to set and to run this event on October 17th.

There are two more events that will happen at the end of October and first of November.  Saturday October 31st we will once again have "Trunk or Treat."  This year we have a very special friend of a Superhero who will be with us.  The next day, on November 1st, we will have Alex Zsolt in concert.  Alex is a dear friend and an outstanding gospel pianist.  He will play special music in the morning and a full concert that Sunday night.  Believe me when I tell you that YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT!

Excited about reaching out,

Pastor Don

About the weather

9/1/2015

Time marches on and it is hard to believe that today is the last day of August. What that means here in the Midwest is that fall is just around the corner. This means changes are coming. Today in Sedalia it is currently 93 degrees but we better enjoy the last few days of summer because soon it will be cool. Seems like someone is always complaining about the weather. I heard this little poem about complaining a few years ago that sums it up.

As a rule a man's a fool,
When it's hot he wants it cool,
When it's cool he wants it hot,
Always wanting what it's not.

If you want perfect weather then you are destined to be unhappy at one time or another. My philosophy is to enjoy what God has given us and deal with it. Some of the same people who tend to complain about the weather complain about other things in life as well. You can choose to be a whiner or a winner. It's up to you because it is all in your outlook.

I'm thankful for the fall not because of the weather, although I've heard it is one of our better seasons, but because of the opportunities that it affords us for ministry. We have something special going on every month and I believe God is going to bless our efforts as we reach out and touch the world for Christ.

We have two new part time staff members starting this week. Taylor Quinley will be our Director of Student Ministries and Michael Sproles will serve as our Music Director. I hope you will be here to welcome and support them.

Yours for a Fantastic Fall,

Pastor Don
