Praise God for a wonderful Vacation Bible School (VBS). I realize it was a lot of work and there was some disruptions in some areas of the church life. However, when we look at the impact that these five (5) days have on all those involved I think you will agree it was worth it. I do not have an exact number, yet somewhere between 6 to 10 people were interested in knowing more about how to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. A couple of those actually did place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. When we look at VBS from the standpoint of changing lives for the Kingdom of God we can never go wrong.
This is the same approach we are taking with the youth as we move into our summer program. I now, your thinking, summer program, all this really means is, a mission trip, camp, the MO State Fair, and then back to school. Of course, some of the kids with be missing as they go on their own vacations and so on. Thus, some things will be different, yet the same as this summer moves alone.
We are preparing to go to Rochester MN, July 9-16. Please pray for the leaders and youth who will be going, as of this newsletter there are nine (9) youth and three (3) leaders going. God has been merciful and has provided all the necessary funds for this trip. Also, in July the children grade 3 thru youth grade 12 will be headed to Camp InLow, July 25-29. There are 17 young people going and again God has graciously provided all the funds for camp. God is more than Amazing, Praise His Holy Name!
In August the youth will be hosting an evening (Aug 17) at the Mo Baptist Tent witnessing to those attending the fair. If you would like to help them that evening just let me know, we would love to have your support.
Next Generation met at our house on May 28th, for their first get together. While this date was not very good for most people, we still had a good turnout. We look forward to having another event probably in September; if someone would like to host it, please let me know and I will help you get things moving. We need to get the Next Generation meeting, if you have any ideals or suggest please let me know; or if you what to take the lead for this group let me know that as well.
Looking forward beyond the summer we will begin preparing for AWANA, we will need teachers, workers, and helpers for this vital program. We will look to have a meeting for AWANA in mid-July an exact date will come soon. Also, want to encourage you to invite someone to Sunday School. If there is a friend, neighbor, co-worker, enemy, person you just met ask them to come to Sunday School with you. Don’t ask them to church, ask them to Sunday School.
If you get them coming with you to Sunday School, then they will come to church. This will help in two areas, one allowing the gospel to be shared twice. Second, it engages them into the Sunday School program, thereby, increasing their chances of coming and staying in Sunday School and church.
Teachers we are going to have a Sunday School meeting prior to the Fall Semester starting. Please be thinking about some ways to engage your classes, things you might need, things that are working, and things that are not. How can we make improvements and areas where we are doing well. We will not have this meeting during the Fair (Aug 11-21).
I am excited about what God is doing at Calvary Baptist Church through every department. I am thankful for all the Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, and AWANA leaders, workers, and teachers. There are so many other volunteers who do so much, I just want to say THANK YOU! Your hard work and dedication make a difference in the Kingdom of God. Remember these words from our brother Paul, “brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good” (2 Thess. 3:13).
