When was the last time you took a trip? I just went to Wisconsin and before I left I checked the route I was going to take. What is interesting about this is, we took the same route we always take but not the route Google Maps or the GPS recommends. See, I decide how much I want to pay in tolls and this determines which route I will take. Many times in our lives we do the same thing. We look at the cost, detours, obstacles, challenges, time, place and many other factors before deciding if we are going to do something, anything.
The Psalmist begins by letting us know his life is down in the dumps. He writes, “My life is down in the dust…” (vs.25, CSB). But even in this state he is not lost, he asks God to give him life through the only thing that can rejuvenate him, God’s Word. He is excited about his life, even though it is not what he might have imagined it would be. He says, “I told you about my life, and You answered me…” (vs.26, CSB). God is always ready and willing to answer you, so the question is: are you talking to Him about what is going on in your life? As you talk with God and He answers, you need to listen and learn all you can as you walk according to His ways. Asking God to help you understand the meaning of His instructions to you, so you will be able to meditate on His wondrous glory. I do not know about you but traveling makes me tired. When I am tired weird things can happen. It is in those moments we need to be extra careful not to do something which will bring disgrace to ourselves and to God. A prayer such as the Psalmist has in vs. 28 would surely help, “I am weary from grief, or sorrow, or heaviness, or I am just tired Lord, strengthen me through Your Word.” As we travel there are choices we must make; where to stop, eat, and get gas, rest, and sleep, how long to drive and so on. Some choices will be good and some bad, but no matter the choice we will have to live with it. However, there is one choice which is always right and that is God’s Word. When we choose to follow its instructions and obey its rules then we will find ourselves walking down a path of truth and honesty. When the trip is over we are glad, we have good memories and hopeful have had a lot of fun. As we study God’s Word we will find the same things taking place. We will begin to cling to all God has to say to us. We will pursue Him each and every day; because, we know His Word will enlarge our understanding and He will never put us to shame in anything we do for Him. Application
Prayer Our Father and God Who art in Heaven praise and glory unto Your name. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who came and died for my sins, Who paid my price on the cross, and was buried and rose from the grave. Thank you dear Father, that He now sits at Your right hand interceding for me. Lord, I need help to be faithful in spending time in Your Word; to spend time meditating on Your Ways. Lord, give me the time and space to be focused so I may be strengthened by Your Word every day. Help me to start today and continue on each day forward. I know temptations will come into my path, I ask for the strength to stand firm against whatever might come. Thank You Lord, for Your promises, love, mercy and grace; in Jesus Christ Name, Amen.
